Hey guys and gals,

I was thinking... since this site is open to everyone yet directed towards midwest chasers & spotters, what do you think about joining forces and forming a small chase / spotting team? I'm not 100% sure where everyone lives and tornado alley is a fairly large area (I'm working on a map now!). But if a certain area has a moderate / high risk of tornadic activity and people are available, it would be cool to meet up at a specified location and combine forces and efforts to track, spot, report and aid/assist as needed.

We have several members with diverse backgrounds. For example, I'm a trained spotter w/ the NWS - St. Louis and hopefully in a couple of months will be CERT trained as well. We have some Fire / EMS members as well as chasers and maybe forecasters. Get a few of us together and we'd have a pretty powerful chase team that not only is out for the perfect storm shots but could also assist if need be.

How bout it? Post your thoughts and opinions on it. With the price of gas, joining forces, even if just pairing up, would not only keep everyone safer than flying it solo, but would also be more cost effective.

Cool

Thanks,
Joe Lawton

I am in for any chase across Western Iowa, Eastern Nebraska and maybe NE Kansas and NW Missouri.

Re: i think you gotta go as a group.

We'll have to look into that, see what requirements they may have and try to meet them before the next one. Tho I was invited to go to the last one w/ some friends (not sure if that was a group or not...) I didn't get a chance to go.

There is the National Storm Chaser Convention 08 in Denver, CO coming up in Feb. Not sure if I'll be able to go just yet. They're going to have a lot of well-known chasers & scientists there.

I couldn't find any info on the NWS one yet. Anyone else have some details on it?

I've been unable to schedule a non-local storm chase for two years now and I'm itching to go! I NEED STORMS!

Houston area has been slammed with a great lack of storms the past few years too...so I'm overdue for some action.

I'm VERY interested in joining up with a group. Especially with some new camera equipment that I just got...need to break it in. I generally chase in N. Texas and Oklahoma when I go...its a long drive, but so well worth it.

Very Happy

Well i'll be starting up a chasing team called MidSCAR(Midwest Storm Chasers and Researchers). It would be fun to meet up with everyone and chase together
